SMS Consent & Disclosure

PetTales™ offers optional SMS text message notifications as a convenience for our paid users. Text messages are strictly transactional — we will never send marketing or promotional content via SMS. This page explains how we collect your consent, what messages you’ll receive, and how to opt out at any time.
1. What Messages You’ll Receive
PetTales SMS notifications are limited to the following transactional alerts related to your storybook orders:
- Storybook completion alerts — A text when your personalized storybook is finished generating and ready to view.
- Preview expiration reminders — Reminders before your free preview expires (48-hour and 24-hour notices).
- Shipping and delivery updates — Notifications when your hardcover book ships and when it’s delivered, including tracking information.
We will never send marketing, promotional, or advertising messages via SMS. All marketing communications are handled separately through email, which you can manage independently.
2. How You Opt In
SMS notifications require your explicit, voluntary consent. You are never automatically enrolled. Here’s how opt-in works:
- On the waiting screen: While your storybook is being generated, you’ll see an optional “Text Me” card where you can enter your US phone number. You must actively type your number and tap the “Text Me” button to opt in.
- During hardcover checkout: When ordering a physical hardcover book, you can optionally check a box to receive shipping updates via text. The checkbox is unchecked by default.
Upon opting in, you’ll receive a one-time confirmation message:
“PetTales: You’re signed up for text alerts! Reply STOP to unsubscribe.”
The following consent text is displayed at the point of opt-in: “By tapping ‘Text Me,’ you consent to receive automated transactional text messages from PetTales at this number (e.g., storybook-ready alerts, preview reminders, shipping updates). Max 5 msgs per order. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to cancel.”
3. Message Frequency
Message frequency is limited and directly tied to your storybook activity:
- Per storybook: Maximum of 5 text messages across the entire lifecycle of a single storybook (1 completion alert + up to 2 expiration reminders + up to 2 shipping updates).
- Typical usage: Most users receive 1–2 text messages per storybook order.
We do not send recurring or scheduled messages outside of these specific transactional events.
4. How to Opt Out
You can stop receiving text messages at any time through any of these methods:
- Reply STOP: Text STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, QUIT, or END to any message from PetTales. Opt-out is processed immediately at the carrier level.
- On the waiting screen: Click “Cancel text notification” on the SMS opt-in card.
- Contact support: Email [email protected] and we’ll remove your phone number within 24 hours.
After opting out, your phone number is immediately deleted from our systems. You will not receive any further text messages unless you opt in again.
5. Message & Data Rates
Standard message and data rates may apply depending on your mobile carrier and plan. PetTales does not charge any additional fees for SMS notifications. Contact your mobile carrier for details about your messaging plan.
6. Privacy
- Your phone number is stored only while you are actively opted in to SMS notifications.
- Upon opting out, your phone number is immediately deleted from our database.
- We never share, sell, or rent your phone number to any third parties.
- Your opt-in consent timestamp is retained for up to 2 years for regulatory compliance records, even after opt-out.
- SMS message delivery logs are retained by our SMS provider (Twilio) for 30 days for debugging purposes.
